For over 50 years, Bridge Over Troubled Waters has provided a comprehensive continuum of care for runaway, homeless, and high-risk youth in Boston, serving as a national model for innovative youth services. Our mission is to transform the lives of youth through safe, supportive, and encouraging relationships, counseling, housing, and skill-building, guiding them toward self-sufficiency and achieving their goals.
The Street Outreach Manager serves as the operational leader for the Street Outreach Program, ensuring the achievement of program goals and supporting positive outcomes for youth in the field. This role is a hybrid of leadership and direct service, with approximately 75% of time spent in the field. The Manager will provide direct oversight of street outreach efforts, supervise staff, and participate in regular "foot patrols" and shelter visits to maintain up-to-date knowledge of where homeless youth gather.
The remaining time is dedicated to administrative responsibilities, including monitoring program operations, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis, and contributing to program development. A key component of the role involves providing oversight of the Bridge Medical Van operations, coordinating outreach locations, and ensuring youth are effectively connected to essential services.
As the lead Street Outreach Worker, you will build partnerships with surrounding neighbors and the larger community, acting as a liaison and advocate. You will ensure all activities are conducted with sensitivity to the cultural and ethnic diversity of all Bridge clients. The role requires frequent collaboration with external partners, including the City of Boston Homeless Shelter Commission, Pine Street Inn Outreach Van, the local Police Department, and adult homeless shelters. You will also lead and participate in program manager and staff meetings, as well as quarterly all-staff gatherings.
Flexibility is essential; as the nature of the business demands change, so too may the essential functions of the position. The successful candidate will be expected to adapt to the dynamic needs of the field and the youth population.
Please note: This job description provides a general sense of the responsibilities and expectations of the position. The candidate who accepts this role is expected to be flexible to meet the changing demands of the business.
