AHRC NYC is dedicated to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. We are currently seeking a Special Education School Age Teacher to join our team at Brooklyn Blue Feather Elementary School in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Our mission is to provide inclusive, high-quality educational environments where every student can thrive.
As a Special Education School Age Teacher, you will serve as a vital partner in the educational journey of students in a self-contained classroom setting. This role is designed to assess student needs and abilities, translating those insights into comprehensive, individualized lesson plans. You will utilize behavioral approaches grounded in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and/or TEACCH principles to design developmentally appropriate strategies that foster growth.
Your day-to-day responsibilities involve creating and implementing IEP goals and objectives that leverage student strengths while addressing areas for improvement. You will align daily schedules and activities with NYS Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core Standards or NYS Common Core Standards, ensuring school readiness goals are met. Additionally, you will be responsible for preparing progress reports, updating IEPs as needed, and actively participating in review meetings to ensure continuous student success.
This is a full-time position operating on a 10-month program schedule, which includes a 30-day summer session. The standard work week runs Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.
