The Principal (Headmaster) serves as the chief educational leader of the Classical Academy, reporting directly to the Superintendent. This position is designed for an energetic, wise, and well-grounded professional who possesses strong executive skills and a deep appreciation for classical education. The core mission of this role is to champion moral, intellectual, and civic virtue while establishing a school culture that fosters academic excellence and a love for truth, beauty, and goodness.
In this capacity, the Principal acts as the primary steward of the school's mission, vision, and philosophy, ensuring fidelity to classical education principles among staff, students, and families. While the Superintendent provides extensive operational support on-site to allow the Principal to focus primarily on academics, the role retains oversight of all academic operations, student enrollment, instructional effectiveness, special education compliance, and parent satisfaction. The Principal is responsible for inspiring wonder among students and staff, setting an example in full enrollment and strong academic achievement, and developing a bench of capable future leaders.
The role balances high-impact accountability with deep instructional leadership. The Principal ensures the program of student-specific plans is constantly practiced and that all instructional staff consistently and effectively utilize adopted curriculum resources and assessments. This involves providing clarity, coaching, and correction to the team, as well as conducting regular, high-quality formal written evaluations.
Beyond the classroom, the Principal fosters a virtuous school climate characterized by character development and critical thinking. This includes implementing the school's Code of Conduct, ensuring adherence to the uniform and dress code, and maintaining consistent communication with families and neighborhood institutions. The role also requires hosting a minimum of four community outreach events annually to strengthen the bond between the school and its community.
Candidates for this position will be evaluated based on their history of successful teaching experience, leadership capabilities, and a demonstrated deep appreciation for classical learning. The selection process prioritizes individuals with outstanding written and verbal communication skills, active listening abilities, and the capacity for sound judgment through critical thinking. Familiarity with the district community and demographics is highly valued.
The Classical Academy Charter School is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, ensuring that our community reflects the values of truth, beauty, and goodness we strive to instill in our students.
