The Lifeguard is the guardian of safety and fun at our aquatic facilities. You will be responsible for securing the well-being of pool occupants and program participants, ensuring a safe environment where children and adults can interact and enjoy the water. This role is vital to the smooth operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids, enforcing rules, maintaining equipment, and responding to emergencies with professionalism and care.
Our pools operate seven days a week, requiring a flexible schedule. Staff are expected to work at least one full shift per week and one weekend shift per month to ensure fair coverage. Shifts are available between 4:45 AM and 4:00 PM on weekdays.
We offer in-house, American Red Cross lifeguard training and certification sessions at no cost to our team members. While American Red Cross Lifeguard certification and CPR for rescue are required, we support your growth by providing First Aid and AED-Oxygen certifications within the first 60 days of employment. Additional training includes Blood Borne Pathogen protocols and State of Michigan criminal background clearance.
