Position description The Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing and enhancing the clinical operations and services within the Department of Family Medicine. This individual will work closely with the Chair of the Department and other senior leaders to ensure the highest standards of clinical care, operational efficiency, and integration of clinical services with the educational and research missions of the medical school. The selected individual will help develop and execute departmental strategies that expand the number of faculty, locations of care delivery and the range of clinical services delivered in an innovative fashion. The Vice Chair will also be responsible for oversight of quality improvement initiatives within the department and will work with leadership at both UCLA and affiliated healthcare organizations. Academic appointment will be in the Health Sciences clinical series, rank to commensurate with level of experience. Experience and interest in full spectrum family medicine is highly valued. Key Responsibilities: Clinical Operations Management: Oversee the day-to-day clinical operations of the Department of Family Medicine, including patient care delivery, clinic management, and integration of clinical services. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. Assists with review and implementation of department clinical policies and procedures consistent with UCLA Health and School of Medicine guidelines. Monitor and improve clinical performance metrics, patient satisfaction, and safety standards. Reviews clinical productivity dashboards, patient satisfaction surveys and quality of care indicators; ensures follow-up with faculty and clinical directors as appropriate. Design and implement clinical workflow improvements. Oversees clinic schedules including out-patient, in-patient, and after-hours call; ensures coordination between faculty and resident clinic coverage, residency retreat coverage, and leave requests. Strategic Planning and Development: Collaborate with the Chair and other leaders to develop and implement a strategic plan for the expansion of clinical services. Identify opportunities for growth and improvement in clinical programs and services. Advocate for and support the development of innovative models of care delivery. Faculty and Staff Management: Provide leadership and mentorship to clinical faculty and staff within the department. Support the recruitment, retention, and professional development of clinical faculty. Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment. Assists with faculty credentialing and evaluation of clinical privileges. Education and Training: Collaborate with the educational leadership to ensure the integration of clinical practice with medical education and training. Ensures appropriate supervision of trainees and advanced practice providers. Support and enhance the clinical training of medical students, residents, and fellows. Facilitate opportunities for faculty development in clinical teaching and mentoring. Research and Quality Improvement: Promote and support research initiatives that align with the department's clinical focus and goals. Lead or participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes and patient care. Be responsible for reporting on provider performance and quality. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Budget and Resource Management: Collaborate with health system operational leadership and Department leadership on the financial aspects of clinical operations, including budgeting, resource allocation, and cost management. Work with the department's administrative team to ensure effective use of resources and financial sustainability. Oversees accurate and timely billing, documentation, and peer reviews. Community and Institutional Engagement: Promote, foster, and support a culture of safety and inclusion that prioritizes wellness, access, and social justice for students, faculty, staff, and patients. Represent the Department of Family Medicine in interactions with patients, community organizations, and healthcare partners. Represent the Department in committee work or other forums focused on the clinical mission at UCLA. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to advance the department's clinical mission and goals. Serves as an exemplary role-model and clinician-leader Qualifications: MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree. Board certification in Family Medicine is required. Eligibility for medical licensure in California, and unrestricted DEA. Strong leadership and management skills with experience in overseeing clinical operations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Proven track record of successful clinical program development and quality improvement. Minimum of two years as academic faculty. Experience in clinical administration preferred. The salary range for this position is $167,900- $357,500 depending on Rank and Step. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan (https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf), which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
