Position Overview: The Trade Compliance Classification Intern will perform tasks and complete projects to help support the Trade Compliance Classification team. The intern will provide outside perspective and guidance on more advanced Export Compliance Classification Number (ECCN) codes as well as Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) code that are outside of the current team’s scope of knowledge. The intern will offer analysis and solutions to potentially restrictive product and advise on applicability of the Commerce Control List (CCL). The role will also help support and bridge the gap between Export Compliance and Classification and help develop tools that provide time savings as well as contribute to the creation of supporting documentation. Housing: Local campus housing (private room, private bath, and shared living space) is provided for interns selecting Thief River Falls as their internship home base. We are unable to provide housing for Bloomington-based internships. This is a hybrid or essential onsite role, which will require onsite attendance. Responsibilities: Write a high-level white paper focusing on common applications of product types and quantities relative to those applications. Create a short-hand General Rules of Interpretation (GRI) style document for abbreviated reasonable care for HTS codes that could potentially be created systematically. This may include implementation of a checklist and utilize rules engine functionality. Perform and complete a time study for TCC tasks. Research and create flowchart on the impact of missing documentation/data at the time new product is introduced through the point of EOL/supplier return. Assist with day-to-day tasks and projects in the assigned department. Support the team in their regular duties. Participate in team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions. Collaborate with team members on various projects and initiatives. Conduct research and analysis as assigned. Maintain organized records of work and project files. Capstone Project: Gain practical experience in the assigned department. Develop a deeper understanding of DigiKey and how it operates. Improve business skills such as communication, project management, data analysis, etc. Build a professional network within the industry. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The best candidate for this position will be a current student or recent graduate with education in an electrical engineering or similar area of study and a strong interest in hands-on learning experiences. Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills including average to above-average computer ability. Be willing to take the initiative, working independently and collaboratively. Demonstrating a positive, collaborative approach is important in this role. Tools, Systems, and Software: Full Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams. Outlook.
