The Patient Safety Consultant initiates activities and initiatives related to mitigation, preparation, response and recovery, in the event of any operational or patient safety related incident or sentinel event. Additionally, serves as a resource for performance/quality improvement activities to the INTEGRIS Health facilities. The Patient Safety Consultant responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Conducts research and investigation activities and analysis, the production of corrective actions, and oversight of implementation compliance to ensure that training and improvement efforts are in compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements for sentinel/never or other assigned investigatory events reviewed. Reviews policies, procedures, protocols, programs, and documents required to ensure compliance with TJC/CMS or other accreditation/regulatory entities. Coordinates patient safety/quality employee and physician communication systems. Responsible for maintaining a variety of computer databases to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of quality/patient safety initiatives. Develops, implements, and maintains all protocols, documentation, training, and equipment to ensure compliance to all relevant TJC/CMS/State Department of Health regulations pertaining to Patient Safety readiness and activities. Conducts and critiques patient safety rounds to ensure compliance and to enhance Patient Safety/Quality Improvement, regulatory and accreditation requirements across system. Develops, implements, and tracks patient safety/quality indicators at a level acceptable for reporting and presentation to hospital leadership, TJC, and other federal/state/local agencies, as required. Identifies trends and conducts gap analysis between current and desired outcomes and performance Assists in evaluation of training opportunities for INTEGRIS Health personnel, in association with patient safety/quality initiatives. Facilitates analysis of clinical data, human resource reports, or other cultural issues and identifies strategies for resolution including training or other interventions Responds to patient safety emergencies at all INTEGRIS Health facilities, as needed or assigned. Participates in organizational activities as a facilitator as requested. Integrates interdepartmental/interdisciplinary initiatives across campuses or system Provides consultation and mentorship to clinical care providers throughout the system for implementation of evidence-based practice. Assists with assessing, monitoring, and maintaining records of performance improvement activities and documentation of the effectiveness of patient care. Supports the medical staff and assigned department to effectively measure, assess, and improve the quality and safety of patient care and services Participates in departmental performance improvement activities, including collecting and compiling data and assists the unit staff in identifying achievable performance goals and implementing strategies to achieve these goals. Reports to the assigned Manager or Director This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. This position is subject to being called upon, at any time, for response to disaster calls at any facility within the INTEGRIS Health, which may or may not include potential exposures to chemical, biological, and/or radiological agents. Bachelor’s degree: Nursing, Engineering, Quality Management, Business Management, or Healthcare related field is preferred OR Associates degree in above described areas plus an additional 2 years full time experience in healthcare operations. Current Oklahoma State Registration or current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Oklahoma or current multistate license from a Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) member state license in nursing. 5 years recent experience in healthcare setting required. 3 years of professional development, process improvement, consultation, or leadership experience preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft office including power point, excel, publisher and database software such as access. Excellent communication, oral presentation, and professional writing skills. Experience in patient safety, risk management, quality improvement, in a healthcare setting strongly preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbal/written).
