The Department of Dermatology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time to work in Miami, Fl. The Research Associate 2, SOM contributes to the University’s research activities under the supervision of senior staff. Moreover, the incumbent understands, interprets, and complies with research policies and protocols. Performs specialized and complex experiments. Participates in the publication of significant research results. Advances expertise through education, training, and research. Writes extramural proposals to gain support when appropriate. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures. Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments. Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment. Performs calculations to complete research test results. Performs photography and dark room processing. Participates in training sessions and workshops. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required Minimum 2 years of relevant experience Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions. DEPARTMENT PECIFIC FUNCTIONS Experience in molecular and cell biology techniques including isolation and purification RNA and DNA, cloning, qPCR, western blots, primary cells, cell lines and organ culture, immunohistochemistry, handling and processing human and animal tissue samples. In addition, participate in research activities at the department level, including Grand Rounds, Research Day, Skin club and joint lab meetings. Facilitates wound healing and wound infections research using ex vivo wound models, animal models of wound healing and chronic wound samples. Performs RNA isolation/purification and analyses, primary human cell cultures, real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry, microbiology analyses and protein isolation. Reviews medical charts and extracts relevant data. Obtains signed informed consent and disclosure agreements from patients.
