Position Overview: The Director, Inbound Operations is responsible for the vision, strategy, planning, coordinating, and senior leadership of all activities related to the delivery of Receiving and Fargo services for DigiKey Corporation. The position’s focus is on maintaining, coaching, and developing staff, determining organization objectives, monitoring the progress of projects and initiatives, and taking appropriate action when needed. This is an essential onsite position located in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Responsibilities: Provides visible, hands-on leadership to Product Distribution Center (PDC) managers and their supervisors, assisting them in developing a workforce that is highly focused, efficient, improvement-oriented and motivated for success. Understands overall company strategies, goals and objectives; develops and drives department strategy, goals&objectives to align for maximum impact. Effectively communicates operational objectives and plans to the PDC workforce, ensuring that all employees have a common understanding of strategic PDC direction and whether they are making measurable progress toward common objectives. Establishes a continuous improvement plan with metrics for PDC that will lead to a leaner and more efficient operation, resulting in more profitable business practices while increasing customer satisfaction levels. Works as an effective corporate liaison with sales/customer service, purchasing, accounting and other functional areas within DigiKey to maximize order fulfillment efficiency and company profitability. Assumes responsibility for the layout of company order fulfillment receiving facilities as well as the company’s off-site warehousing locations. Works closely with the DigiKey Information Technology group to automate manual functions and increase order fulfillment efficiencies across the operation. Ensures ISO (quality) and OSHA (safety) compliance. Creates metrics to ensure that long term performance can be measured and improved. Serve on safety councils and committees. Develops performance-based metrics for individuals and departments within PDC, measuring actual performance against standards, and adjusting the metrics accordingly to ensure ongoing steady improvement in the performance of individuals and groups/departments within PDC. Identifies opportunities for team and/or leader (manager/supervisor) development (e.g. hard or soft skills) to ensure industry and corporate standards are met; partner when/where appropriate to develop and organize development activities. Owns an effective human resources planning process, communicating to DigiKey HR on an ongoing basis regarding projected staffing needs based on objective system reporting and maintaining adequate staffing levels in the PDC at all times. Provides direction and guidance to employees and manage issues appropriately. Partner with Human Resources (HR) when needed. Works closely with DigiKey leadership to identify, develop, and implement continuous improvements. Monitors and evaluates performance dashboards and reports; determines root cause of issues&propose/lead recommendations&implementation for resolution. May champion/lead organizational change initiatives (e.g. process, technology, etc.). Improves DigiKey’s ranking among other industry electronic distributors with regard to the overall perceived quality and timeliness of order fulfillment (Same day ship percentages, accuracy, etc.). Builds upon current financial metrics within the distribution network to enhance budgets, analytical reporting and cost accounting for PDC. Develops near term (1-3 year) functional plan to achieve PDC objectives; contributes to the development of the long-term (5 years) department and strategic plan. Ability to travel - domestically and internationally as needed/requested. Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or similar area of study or equivalent, relevant work experience. 10 years of managerial or related experience such as mentorship, team lead roles or career development and being a leader of leaders. 3 years of experience in DigiKey and/or industry experience in inventory control, continuous improvement, Data&Analytics, warehouse distribution or other relevant work experience. Demonstrated success in leadership/management role within an interdepartmental and dynamic company (i.e. global, matrixed organization). Demonstrated ability to build and foster influential relationships at all levels across and outside of the DigiKey organization. Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally at all levels within the organization to identify and resolve problems and implement new initiatives. Shown fiscal responsibility with the ability to understand and measure the cost-effectiveness of the department. Shown ability to actively participate as a member of the DigiKey Management Team to meet corporate goals. In-depth knowledge of WMS systems and proven experience in rolling out new systems. Experience in setting up new distribution facilities and integrating existing facilities. Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship. Tools/Systems/Software: Knowledge of WMS (warehouse management systems). Microstrategy. KiSoft. Knapp/MTS. Power BI reporting. SQP Dashboard. Physical Requirements: Able to twist or bend and occasionally climb stairs. Able to reach with hands and arms above shoulder level. Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen. Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body. Capable of spending 8-10 hours walking/standing on concrete.
