Position Overview The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a newly envisioned leadership role that will play a critical part in shaping strategy, operations, and financial products at Housing Connector. Working closely with the CEO, the CFO will drive financial and operational goals for an organization overseeing over $15 million in annual revenues. This role will ensure the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization while partnering in the design and analysis of innovative financial products that drive sustainable impact. As a strategic leader, the CFO will manage budgeting, accounting, and long-term financial planning, bringing a strategic lens to operations. Additionally, the CFO will design and implement systems that support the organization’s scalability and expansion into new markets, providing senior leaders with the financial insights needed to align decisions with our mission and strategic priorities. Key Responsibilities Financial Strategy Collaborate with the CEO to set the organization’s financial strategy. Lead the annual budgeting process and oversee all financial plans and budgets. Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the executive team and board. Ensure compliance with federal grants and other regulatory requirements. Provide financial insights and strategic counsel to senior leaders on the financial implications of their areas. Monitor financial performance, anticipate challenges, and generate strategies for financial impact. Manage cash flow and work with auditors on annual financial and regulatory matters. Operations Management Design, enhance, and implement systems and processes across the organization to improve efficiency and scalability. Oversee operational infrastructure, ensuring systems are built to support growth and increase impact. Ensure compliance of accounting and reporting systems with GAAP and government regulations. Identify cross-functional opportunities to optimize organizational operations and foster collaboration. Lead the development and maintenance of key operational processes that drive overall company success. Executive Leadership&Team Management Serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy and overseeing financial and operational functions. Report directly to the CEO, acting as a key advisor on financial and operational matters while collaborating with the leadership team to align strategies with organizational priorities. Foster a culture of inclusivity and belonging by modeling leadership that supports all team members across diverse identities, while championing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts throughout the organization. Guide and mentor your team, ensuring alignment on priorities, managing challenges effectively, and promoting high performance and continuous improvement. Engage with the Board to provide updates and insights on financial and operational strategies, fostering trust and accountability at all organizational levels. Requirements Required Skills and Experience 7-10 years of progressive experience in senior financial and operational leadership roles (e.g., CFO, VP of Finance, VP of Operations, Director of Finance), with a proven track record in managing financial health and operational efficiency within a company, division, or nonprofit organization. Degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; CPA preferred. Proven expertise in Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A): forecasting, budgeting, financial modeling, variance analysis, and providing insights for strategic decision-making. Strong operational leadership experience with demonstrated success in implementing strategic plans and systems for scalability and efficiency. Exceptional financial acumen with expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance. Experience ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including financial statements, audits, and regulatory financial reporting. Familiarity with financial systems, ERPs, and HCMs. Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop diverse, high-performing teams. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to manage complexity and drive clarity. Commitment to and passion for Housing Connector’s mission, values, and impact. Nice to Have Experience ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements related to fundraising, including debt issuance and public offerings. Experience leading internal and external audits, assessing financial practices, ensuring compliance with regulations, and addressing audit findings effectively.
