Certified in field and meets all requirements to be "Highly Qualified" as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PERMITS: Valid teacher certification in the assigned teaching field. QUALIFICATIONS: Incumbent must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function of the position. Incumbent must be able to provide a Criminal Background Check with results that adhere to Emanuel County Board of Education Policy GAK(1). PERFORMANCE FUNCTIONS: Demonstrates the ability to: Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, collaborating with colleagues as appropriate. Create and maintain a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning, appropriate to the maturity and interests of students, and supportive of all students. Create a standards-based classroom by employing the instructional methods and philosophy of the Georgia Performance Standards. Employ differentiation strategies to assist/challenge all students and the Pyramid of Intervention (POI) to assist those who are not being successful. Monitor and evaluate student outcomes, communicating appropriately with staff, students, and parents and focusing on achievement growth of all students. Maintain confidentiality of students and students' records. Engage in continuous professional development and renew certification in a timely manner. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides instruction based on state and county expectations, assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and providing progress reports as specified by administration. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct; develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. If working with a paraprofessional, plans and supervises meaningful assignments and assists administration in job performance evaluations of the paraprofessional. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional material, monitoring appropriate use and care. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, county policy, and administrative regulation. Assumes responsibility for the safety of students under his or her supervision in a variety of school-related settings. Maintains regular, punctual attendance. Provides adequate information, plans and materials for substitute teachers. Carries out such other duties that may be assigned by the principal. ADDITIONAL DUTIES: This position requires the teacher be assigned as FBLA Adviser for the local chapter. Extended day duties and responsibilities are required for successful management and leadership of the chapter. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Travels to school district buildings, FBLA competitions, and professional meetings as required.
