Schedule Hours: Monday - Friday (Varied), 7:00am-3:30pm General Summary Performs routine diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures at general skill and knowledge level. Essential Functions: Performs routine cardiac ultrasound techniques and examinations such as, adult echocardiograms, preps and acquires stress echocardiograms, pediatric echocardiograms, and 3D echo. Assists the physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms and operative transesophageal echocardiograms. Supervises, assists, and evaluates students in the clinical education setting. Obtains intravenous access and administers intravenous contrast agents such as Definity and Optison. Performs Saline Bubble Studies. Prepares preliminary echocardiogram reports and measurements for physicians. Performs portable tests in patient rooms when necessary. Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably. Explains procedures to patients. Clerical duties such as, scheduling patients, ensuring accurate billing codes, answering phones. Maintains equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts Biomed Department for major malfunctions. Knowledge and routine use of digital image storage system (PACS) and associated workflow software. Common Expectations: Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s). Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required. Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and in-service meetings, including assisting in the preparation, research and presentation of departmental Echocardiology staff inservice meetings. Maintains appropriate records, reports, and files as required. Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
