The Clinical Lab Scientist in the Core Pathology Department plays a vital role in delivering accurate diagnostic results under close supervision. This position is available at Levels 1 through 3, determined by your experience and education. You will perform routine standardized clinical diagnostic tests, including waived and nonwaived patient testing, often requiring interaction with infectious agents. Your work ensures the hospital meets regulatory and accreditation standards while supporting patient care through prompt and reliable laboratory services.
Your day involves receiving, sorting, and assessing the acceptability of specimens before distributing them to appropriate sections. You will operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation, prepare chemical solutions and reagents, and perform rigorous quality control procedures. A key part of your role is documenting patient data, test results, and instrument maintenance in the OUH lab informatics system. You will also notify clinical staff of critical values, participate in performance improvement activities, and manage inventory. Success in this role requires the ability to multi-task, remain calm in stressful situations, and exercise sound judgment when handling confidential information.
