As a Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens, you play a vital role in supporting the pharmacist and ensuring the pharmacy department operates smoothly and safely. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, you assist in the practice of pharmacy while adhering to all state, federal, and company regulations. Your work is essential to maintaining the integrity of the prescription process and delivering a distinctive, delightful customer experience to every patient who walks through the door.
At the heart of this role is the commitment to engaging customers and patients with warmth and professionalism. You will greet individuals, offer assistance with products and services, and resolve issues to ensure a positive experience. By modeling best practices in interpersonal habits—such as greeting, eye contact, and courtesy—you help create an environment where patients feel valued. You will also develop strong relationships with our most valuable customers, proactively identifying needs and servicing them until they are satisfied.
Your day involves a blend of technical precision and operational support. You will utilize pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, enter data accurately, and process prescriptions. This includes retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine correctness, and checking for possible interactions. If you are PTCB certified, you will also assist in coaching other technicians and cashiers on system operations.
Beyond prescription processing, you handle various clerical and operational duties. This includes registering sales, handling cash, processing manual claims for third-party programs, and managing telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's direct attention. You will also support inventory management by ordering, unpacking, and storing shipments, while maintaining knowledge of asset protection techniques. In some cases, you may assist with clinical services, such as collecting blood or urine samples, and help coordinate with healthcare clinics and external providers.
We are committed to your professional growth. You will have the opportunity to earn and maintain PTCB certification through our designated training program or state-required certification. As a condition of promotion to Senior Technician, PTCB certification is required. You will also attend training sessions, complete required PPLs, and acquire continuing education credits to stay current with the latest healthcare and pharmacy developments.

Six months of experience in a retail environment. Prior work experience with Walgreens. Good math skills for filling prescriptions accurately (counting, measuring, weighing). Good computer skills. Knowledge of store inventory control. PTCB certification.
